Obituary of Harvey W Herron

Harvey William Herron, age 90, of Palm Coast, Florida, passed away peacefully on December 2, 2021, surrounded by his loving family and cherished wife Gail. Harvey was born on September 20, 1931 in Taylor, Pennsylvania to Harvey and Mary Herron.

He was the oldest son of seven children. He was known as “Champ” to his friends and family and was a well-known High School Football All Star and all-around athlete. Days after graduating from Moosic High School in Pennsylvania, Harvey joined the US Navy and served on the USS Requisite as a Quartermaster 2nd Class working on the ship’s bridge during the Korean War.

After serving in the US Navy, Harvey returned to Pennsylvania and attended the East Stroudsburg University on the GI Bill to earn his Bachelor’s Degree in Education and later earned his Master’s Degree in Education at the University of Northern Colorado.

Mr. Herron was a career educator in the East Islip, New York School District for 30 years. After retiring in 1989, Harvey and Gail moved from East Islip, New York to Palm Coast, Florida where they are active charter members of Shepherd of the Coast Lutheran Church. Harvey was an avid golfer who took great pride in his hole in one and double eagle achievements. Harvey was a tough guy known for his sense of humor, whistling, storytelling and kindhearted smile.

Harvey is survived by his beloved wife, Gail; his children Michael Herron (Carol), Michelle Herron (Wayne), Kimberly Burns, Dawn Hohnhorst and her husband Michael; granddaughters, Mary Herron, and Kaitlyn Holling; great-grandson Julian Herron; his faithful furry companion of 15 years and “the best dog ever”, Jake; siblings Shirley Nelson, Mary Ogonosky and her husband Edward, Helen Werner, and Robert Herron; and many nieces, and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents Harvey and Mary Herron, his sister Frances Ames, and his brother William Herron.

Our family extends our heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Advent Health Palm Coast and the Stuart F Meyer Hospice House for their compassionate care in his final days.

The family will receive visitors at Shepherd of the Coast Lutheran Church, 101 Pine Lakes Pkwy, Palm Coast, Noon, Saturday, December 11, 2021 with by a celebration of life service at 1:00 pm followed by a private interment ceremony at the Craig Flagler Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Shepherd of the Coast Lutheran Church.
