Autumn Cook Fulton Ireland
Born to Isabella Peeler Cook and Bert Cook on March 30, 1933, Autumn Cook Fulton Ireland was raised on a farm in Chickamauga, Georgia, a small town situated in the North Georgia mountains.
She had one older brother (Bert). Autumn attended Gordon Lee Memorial High School, where she excelled in academics and basketball, playing all four years. It was on the basketball court that Autumn received her nickname, "Cookie." Following high school, Autumn attended Wesleyan College in Macon, the world's first college chartered to grant degrees to women.
During her senior year, Autumn met and married Robert E. (Bob) Fulton, a union that lasted more than 40 years and produced three children, David Earle Fulton (Sherry Shively Fulton), Robert Bruce Fulton (Colleen Anderson Fulton), and Lori Leeanne Fulton Cutillo.
Autumn enjoyed spending her early married life in England, where David was born, but the family soon settled in Williamsburg, Virginia. There, Autumn began her 15-year career as a historical interpreter for Colonial Williamsburg. Autumn was an expert docent, leading visitors through dozens of buildings, homes, taverns and the like. During breaks from her tours, Autumn learned to do crewelwork, a type of needlepoint. Over the course of her life, Autumn completed dozens of beautiful and detailed crewel pieces, which she enjoyed giving away to family and friends.
Autumn was also active in the Methodist Church, singing in the choir, as well as social organizations such as bridge club and the Wednesday Morning Music Club. Along the way, she found time to raise her three children, nurture their musical interests and abilities, and help care for her mother and father who had moved nearby.
In 1985, Autumn and Bob relocated to Alpharetta, Georgia, north of Atlanta. While there, Autumn enjoyed playing tennis, decorating, and flower arranging. She also enjoyed visiting with her six grandchildren: Garrett Fulton, Taylor Fulton, Kathryn Fulton, Jaclyn Fulton, Christian Cutillo, and Daniel Cutillo.
Upon reconnecting with her childhood love, Autumn married H. Maxey Ireland in 2000. Autumn and Maxey relished travel, and particularly enjoyed trips to Israel and South America. They lived together in Ormond Beach until Maxey's death last year. Nothing made Autumn happier than being surrounded by family, including Maxey's children and relatives who lived nearby, and all her family who visited Florida as often as possible.
Autumn lived 85 full and wonderful years. She died suddenly of heart failure in her home. She will be deeply missed by her children, grandchildren, and numerous other extended family, but her generous spirit and kind nature will live on in their memories.
Autumn was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, her husband, and her son, David Earle (d. 2011).
Family and friends will be received Saturday, June 30, 2018 from 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM at Craig-Flagler Palms Funeral Home, where funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM. Entombment will follow at Flagler Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Ireland's name to the American Heart Association, 7272 Greenville Ave., Dallas TX 75231
