Andris Jekabsons, 82, of Palm Coast, died June 24, 2018 at Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville. Mr. Jekabsons was born June 23, 1936 in Riga, Lativa, a son of Ansis & Milda Vitols Jekabsons.
Mr. Jekabsons came to the United States as a refugee, and then enlisted in the United States Army, with the purpose of rescuing his older sister, Skaidrite, from a Refugee Camp in Germany. He succeeded in the rescue of his sister, and brought her back to the United States.

Following his honorable discharge, he worked in the concrete business for 40 years, retiring from Clayton Concrete. He then retired to Palm Coast in 1999. He was Lutheran by faith, and a member of Beachside Community Church.

Mr. Jekabsons was a member of the Palm Coast Elks Lodge #2709, where he was a past Tiler, and worked extensively with the Table Committee. He was honored in 2013 in being the Elk of the Year.

Mr. Jekabsons enjoyed traveling, crabbing with his father and brother, and was a handyman. He also enjoyed watching the Pittsburgh Pirates, Tampa Bay Rays, and Houston Astros.

He is survived by his wife, the former Carolyn Thrush, whom he married in 2009. Two daughters, Debbie (Frank) Taylor, and Laura McNeil; one son, Jeff Jekabsons; one brother Uldis "Jake" Jekabsons; four step-children, Tammy (Scott) Weidman, Edward (Mercedes)Thrush, Kip (Patricia)Thrush, and Kelly (Jeff) Drummonds; 20 grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife Lois Jekabsons in 2006 as well as his two sisters, Edith and Skaidrite.

Family and friends will be received Friday, June 29, 2018 from 2:00-3:00 at Craig-Flagler Palms Funeral Home, where funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM. Burial will follow at Flagler Memorial Gardens with Full Military Honors.
