Catherine Veronica “Gram” Jenkins, 86, died August 7, 2010, at Halifax Hospital in Daytona Beach. “Kay” was a 26-year resident of Ormond by the Sea, where she was an active member of the parish at St. Brendan's Catholic Church. Kay also held many and varied offices with committee responsibilities at the Palmetto Club.

Mrs. Jenkins was born Catherine Dolan in Philadelphia on June 30, 1924. She married Albert E. Jenkins, Jr. on October 30, 1942. She was a “Greatest Generation” home-front wife and mother who gave birth to her first child, Catherine, on June 13, 1944, the very same day her husband entered combat in the European theater of World War II.

Mrs. Jenkins was known by her family and friends alike for her warmth, unconditional generosity and willingness to help anyone who was in need. She was an enthusiastic cheerleader and advocate for her six grandchildren and a reliably constant presence at their birthday celebrations, concerts, dramatic productions, graduations and all of the events that marked their lives. Family members will forever recall her phones calls, letters and prayers in support of all their endeavors; as well as the welcoming into her indescribably warm and special home.

Surviving are her two children; Catherine Dingle, Newark, DE and Albert E. Jenkins III, Daytona Beach; six grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She always wanted and will be remembered as a wonderful Grandmother and devout Irish Catholic woman.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 12, 2010, 11:00AM at the chapel of Craig Flagler Palms Funeral Home, 511 Old Kings Rd. S. Flagler Beach. Entombment to follow at Flagler Palms Memorial Gardens. Friends may visit on Thursday from 10:00 AM until time of the service at the funeral home.

Services are under the care and trust of Craig Flagler Palms Funeral Home.
