Funeral Mass celebrating the life of Florence Shortt Jund, 84, of Palm Coast, who passed away on Friday, September 26, 2008, will be held on Tuesday, September 30, 2008 at 10:30 am at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 4600 Belle Terre Pwky, Palm Coast. Her family will receive friends on Sunday, September 28, 2008 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm at the Craig-Flagler Palms Funeral Home, 511 Old Kings Rd. S., Flagler Beach. Burial will follow the Mass at Flagler Palms Memorial Gardens, Flagler Beach.
Beloved wife for 44 years of Warren S. Jund (deceased 1990); loving mother of Patricia F. Keegan and James Keegan and Kathleen A. Jund (died at birth 1952); proud and doting grandmother of Terence P. Keegan and Michael S. Keegan. Florence is survived by her brother, Jack Shortt and sister-in-law, Barbara Shortt of Sarasota, FL. She is also survived by her cousins, Harry and Marilyn Shortt of Rockledge, FL, Judy Tafuto of Philadelphia, PA, Loretta Reddick of Old Fort, NC and Arthur and Susan Reddick of University Pl., Florida.
She is survived by her loved nieces and nephews: Frances Chenowith (deceased), Karl and Doris Kaufmann, Ditty and Jimmy Fritz, Stephen Kaufmann, JoanGoodman (God Daughter),Stephen and Ginny Cioce and Suzan and Nelson Hertzog.Florence was born in Weehawken, NJ. The daughter of Della King Shortt and Frank Shortt and sister of (predeceased)Stephen Shortt, Dorothy Kaufmann, Marion Cioce, Charles Shortt, Frank Shortt and Veronica Alfano.
Florence was a proud "Weehawken Indians" cheerleader and graduate of Weehawken High School. During World War II she worked for the US Dept. of the Navy at Bethlehem Steel Shipyards in Hoboken. She also sold War Bonds. She was a Girl Scout leader and a member of the Catholic Daughters in Harrington PK., NJ. She worked at Prentice Hall Publishing in Englewood Cliffs, NJ. She also resided at one time in Union City, NJ, Cresskill, NJ, Fairview, NJ and Beverly Beach, FL.
Florence, with her husband Warren, retired to Palm Coast in 1983. They both had been vacationing in the area since the 1960's. Florence was a devoted parishioner of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. She sat at the Holy of Holies (Adoration Group) every Tuesday. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post #8696 in Palm Coast, the Blanketeers, the New Jersey Club, the Democratic Women's Club, and the USS Indiana (BB 58) Reunion Association.
She played Bridge with the Happy Wanderers, the Early Bird Bowling League, and Mah Jongg. She was as excellent crocheter and an avid tennis fan. She enjoyed reading and doing crossword puzzles. She was passionate about politics. She loved her family, her friends, this country and Florida very much. We will all miss her.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her name to the Sheriffs Youth Ranches, PO Box 2000, Boys Ranch, FL 32064.
