Alfred Paul Kurz Jr., 58, of McHenry, passed away Thursday, Sept. 6, 2012, at his home.

He was born April 26, 1954, in Chicago, to Alfred Paul Sr. and Lois (Troyke) Kurz. On Aug. 4, 1978, he married Sabine Bermann in Waukegan. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served from 1973 to 1977.

He enjoyed golfing and was part of the League Bunker Bums. He also enjoyed fishing with his dad and brother and the company of his dogs, Moose and Milka.

He loved all of his McHenry neighbors, his job with the city of McHenry even watching what the guys were up to after he retired.

Survivors include his wife, Sabine Kurz of McHenry; two children, Daniela (Paul) Apfelbach of Palm Coast, Fla., and Erik Kurz of Scott Air Force Base near St. Louis, Mo.; three grandchildren, Benjamin, Mia and Heidi; his father, Alfred P. Kurz Sr.; brother, Dennis (Mary) Kurz of Wauconda; and sister, Kimberly (Bob) Hildebrand of Las Vegas.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Lois Kurz.

The visitation will be from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, at Colonial Funeral Home, 591 Ridgeview Drive, McHenry. 

A celebration of life service will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 9, at First United Methodist Church, 3717 W. Main St., McHenry.

Interment will be private.

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church of McHenry or to Hospice of Northeastern Illinois.
