A Mass of Christian Burial for Thomas F. Lyons, 70, of Flagler Beach will be celebrated on Friday, May 8, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. in Santa Maria del Mar Catholic Church, 915 N. Central Ave., Flagler Beach.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 7 from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. in the chapel of Craig-Flagler Palms Funeral Home, 511 Old Kings Road S., Flagler Beach.

Mr. Lyons, a resident of Flagler Beach since 1996 coming from Batavia, IL, passed away on Sunday, May 3, 2009 in the Stuart F. Meyer Hospice House, Palm Coast, FL. He was born on February 28, 1939 in Boston, MA a son of the late Thomas V. and Gertrude Cavanaugh Lyons. A retired engineer,

Mr. Lyons had worked for several labs associated with MIT for over 47 years including the MIT Lab in Cambridge, MA, Brookhaven Lab in Long Island, NY, Fermi Lab in Batavia, IL, SLAC Lab in Stanford, CA and CERN Lab in Europe. He was a member of Santa Maria del Mar Catholic Church, a former member of the Knights of Columbus and the Rotary Club, a past commodore of the Mastic Beach Yacht Club. He enjoyed boating, fishing, helping neighbors with construction projects. Preceding him in death was his son, Matthew Cory Lyons on April 9, 2009.

Surviving are his wife of 35 years, Suzanne O. Lyons; two daughters, Mildred Lyons and Susan Welch; six sons, Scott Lyons, Brett Lyons, Thomas Lyons, David Lyons, Mark Fitzpatrick and Kevin Fitzpatrick; two sisters, Joan Lyons and Joyce Swanson; a brother, John Lyons; and his mother-in-law, Constance Scott.

The family suggests contributions to Santa Maria del Mar Catholic Church, 915 N Central Ave., Flagler Beach or the American Cancer Society, 1620 S. Clyde Morris Blvd. Daytona Beach, FL 32114.
