Carlos Amaral Macedo
Carlos Amaral Macedo, age 64, of Palm Coast, Florida formerly of New Bedford, Massachusetts passed away at home peacefully surrounded by his loving family and loyal dog, Bear, on January 16, 2021 after a battle with brain cancer that lasted almost 4 years.
He was the beloved husband of Maria Goretti (Carvalho) Macedo for 44 years.
Carlos was born on March 20, 1956 in Achadinha, Sao Miguel, Acores- Portugal to the late Jacinto Amaral Macedo and Maria de Lourdes P. Vasconcelos. He lived on the islands of Sao Miguel and Flores before immigrating with his parents and siblings to the United States of America in October 1968 at the age of 12. His family moved to New Bedford, Massachusetts where he lived until moving to Palm Coast, Florida in November 2017.
He worked at Tichon Seafood for 44 years as Plant Engineer/Maintenance Supervisor. He completed the refrigeration and air conditioning program at New England Tech and did repairs as a second job.
He was a faithful member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. He held many leadership positions at the New Bedford Portuguese SDA Church. One that was his passion was creating a television program called, “Uma Luz No Caminho”. This program was started in 1994 and he dedicated many hours of filming, editing, and producing this ministry to reach the Portuguese community of New England with the love of spreading the Gospel.
He enjoyed watching documentaries of wars, world history, and nature. He enjoyed fishing when he could. He loved working with his hands on any house project he could find at home or at his daughters’ houses. He enjoyed cooking Sunday mornings and making pancake breakfasts. At family gatherings he was known to make his delicious salmon or cod fish recipes. He loved to travel and looked forward to vacations.
Upon retiring he was looking forward to owning his prized possession, his Gravely lawnmower and he was able to achieve that dream on his first week of moving to Florida. He loved animals and was known to pet and play with stray dogs whenever returning to his homeland. He loved to help people in any way he could. He had a way of easily becoming friends with everyone he met and opening his home and made them feel welcome.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Kelly Macedo Miranda and husband Elton, Christine Macedo Garcia and husband Omar. He was the grandfather of Ellyana & Ellysa Miranda and Giana & Aria Garcia. He also leaves behind his siblings, Tony Macedo and wife Val, Joao Macedo and wife Ilda, George Macedo and wife Linda, Marylou Brum and husband Joe, all of Massachusetts and Natalia Macedo of Portugal. Through marriage his wife’s siblings also became his. Maria Natalia Rafferty and husband Thomas and Joe Carvalho and wife Diane. He was a loving uncle to his nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his infant brother, Carlos Alberto Macedo.
His funeral service will be Thursday, January 21, 2021 at 11am at the Palm Coast Seventh-day Adventist Church in Palm Coast, Florida followed by burial at Craig Flagler Memorial Gardens in Flagler Beach, Florida.
A dream of his that was never fulfilled was to go on a mission trip. In honor of his dream in lieu flowers, monetary donations can be made to a charity that was dear to his heart, the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA).
