Alexander Martin (Duke) Mc­Daniel, 76, a long time resident of Flagler County, died Saturday after an illness of several months. He was a former owner and publisher of The Flagler Tribune.

He was born in Jacksonville, Florida and came to Flagler County from Sanford, Florida 51 years ago. He resided at 511 North Pine Street, Bunnell. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Bunnell.

McDaniel was a veteran of World War I and was a life member and Past Commander of Flagler Post No. 115 of The American Legion and a member of the Forty and Eight. He was a charter member of Flagler Chamber of Commerce and was a former executive secretary of that organization.

McDaniel served as postmaster of Bunnell for eight years and is a former member of State Democratic Committee representing Flagler County. He was a member of Bunnell Masonic Lodge No. 200.

He is survived by one son, Martin, Bunnell; two sisters, Mrs. Virginia Lenox, DeLand, and Mrs. Ruth Sturman, Atlanta; one grandson, Robert McDaniel.

Funeral services were held at First United Methodist Church of Bunnell at 2 p.m. Monday, July 10 with .interment in Hope Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Shelton Barber, Dave Perryman, Charles Chambers, John A. Clegg, Lewis Wadsworth and Cliff McGriff. Honorary pallbearers were Victor Buckles, Robert Cook, Johnny Lynn, Lee Blakely, Dale Brown and F. J. Chambers.
