Leona Grace (Chapman) Medearis went peacefully in the early morning hours on February 2, 2013 after a recent short illness. She was at Florida Hospital Flagler. Grace was born April 1, 1936 in Des Moines, Iowa to Ellen and Everette Chapman.
She married Eldon "Jerry" Medearis on April 8, 1953 in Walnut Ridge, Ark. She graduated cosmetology school and owned Grace's Diner in Machesney Park, Ill. Grace was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary #86, and the Flagler County Square Club. Throughout her very full and vibrant life, Grace was a devoted homemaker, attentive mother, loving grandmother, and a kind and generous great grand-grandmother.
She joins in eternal peace and comfort her parents, Ellen and Everette Chapman; sister Kay Morris; and aunt Maxine Gravlin.
Persevering is her husband, Jerry Medearis, Captain, USMC Ret.; her two sons, Terry (Carolyn) Medearis, and Michael (Janet) Medearis; as well as six grandchildren, Brian (Jamie) Medearis, Mark Medearis, Andrew (Susan) Medearis, Valerie Medearis, Kyle Medearis and Joseph (Holly) Medearis. Grace also leaves five great-grandchildren, Brendan, Drew, Avery, Trenton and Ainsley; along with multiple friends and family she met along the way. She will be greatly missed and forever remembered.
Family and friends will be received Wednesday, February 6, 2013, from11:00AM-12:00 PM at the Craig-Flagler Palms Funeral Home, 511 Old Kings Road South in Flagler Beach, where funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM. Interment will follow at the Flagler Palms Memorial Gardens.
