PALM COAST - Manuel Mendez, 79, of Wood Acre Lane, a resident since 2002, died Wednesday at home.

Mr. Mendez, an Army veteran who served during World War II and received the World War II Victory Medal, was born in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico, and moved to this area in 2002 from Miami.

He enjoyed fishing and camping. He was a Boy Scout leader in New York.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Eulalia; a son, Manuel Jr., Bronx, N.Y.; two daughters, Carmen Betancort, Palm Coast, and Evelyn Phillip, Tampa Bay; two brothers, Aniceto, Palm Coast, and Alfonso, Port Richey; a sister, Monica Cruz, Deltona; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
