Florence “Flo” Mintz, 90, of Palm Coast, passed away on January 19, 2019 at the Stuart F. Meyer Hospice House. She was born on December 21, 1928 in Albany, New York to the late Morris and Mae Blanche Fisgaer (Burger).

She met her future husband, Ira, on a blind date in Brooklyn. When she opened the door, much to her surprise, she ran back upstairs and put on a pair of high-heeled shoes. Flo was pleasantly surprised to meet someone that was taller than she was and they were married on June 15, 1946. They raised their family in New Jersey, where she completed college courses, was a leader in the local Hadassah and kept close connections throughout her life with Ira’s extended family and her own.

Once her husband retired, they moved to St. Augustine in 1984 and then to the Palm Coast area in 1997. Flo was a social butterfly and was very involved in her faith and was an active member of Temple Beth Shalom where she held several board positions.

She also enjoyed playing Mah-Jong, Bridge, knitting/sewing and home decorating but her greatest talent was cooking. Flo’s famous chicken soup, brisket and kugel was always a special request of her family and at the temple’s pot-luck dinners.

She was preceded in death by her son, Robert Howard Mintz, as a toddler in 1950.

Survivors include her husband of 72 years, Dr. Ira Mintz; son, Marshall and his wife Betsy Mintz; daughter, Pamela and her husband Arthur F. Leyden; grandchildren, Chelsea Leyden of Tampa, Daniel Leyden of Tampa; Andrew Mintz of California, Rebecca Mintz of Colorado, Andrew and his wife Jaqueline Yamarick of Pennsylvania and Jessica Yamarick of Virginia.

Donations in her memory may be made to Temple Beth Shalom or Hadassah Women’s Zionist Organization of America.

The Mintz family would like to thank the staff of Care Giving With Love of Palm Coast, LLC for the compassionate care given to Flo in recent months.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 24, 2019, 11:00AM at the chapel of Craig-Flagler Palms Funeral Home, 511 Old Kings Rd. South Flagler Beach. Entombment to follow at Flagler Palms Memorial Gardens.
