FLAGLER BEACH - George Alfred Nesmith 85, of Creek Bluff Run, the founder and owner of Crescent Airways in Pembroke Pines for 23 years before his retirement, died Sunday at home.

Mr. Nesmith served in the Marine Corps for 20 years retiring as a master sergeant and was a veteran of World War II. He was born in Bleckley, Ga., and came here in 1995 from Pembroke Pines. He was a member of Bethany Baptist, Church, Cochran, Ga. A pioneer in the helicopter industry in South Florida, Mr. NeSmith was also a member of the National Helicopter Association and the Heavier than Air, Marine Corps Torpedo Boat No. 131 (VMTB).

Survivors include five daughters, Rita Hughes, Flagler Beach, Sheila Ryan, Apopka, Margaret Boro, Houston, Rosemary NeSmith, Lake Worth, and Debbie Jones, Tallahassee; two brothers, Idus and Ray, both of Cochran; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
