Michael Kirby O’Steen, 76 of Ormond Beach, died July 8, 2013 at the Florida Hospital Flagler. He died with a fight, and the love of his life by his side. Mr. O’Steen was born June 8, 1937 in Miami, a son of Thomas and Bernice Weathersbee O’Steen.
He is a 1955 graduate of Duncan U. Fletcher High School in Jacksonville Beach. Following his graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy Reserves, was activated into military service and was honorably discharged in 1962. Mr. O’Steen worked as an electrician and was a proud member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (local 177) for 56 years. He returned to college and received his bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from Florida State University with a speciality in Control Technology. He enjoyed trains, restoring cars, formula 1 racing, NASCAR, amateur radios, genealogy, boating, fishing and his pet dogs.
He is survived by his wife, Anny O'Steen; one daughter, Michele Reum of Jacksonville; a step-daughter, Kathy (Butch) Helmly of Palm Valley; two sons, James (Bonnie) O’Steen and Robert (Terri) O’Steen both of Fruit Cove; two step-sons, Craig (Maureen) Rio of Palm Coast and Bryan (Dee) Reichard of Jacksonville Beach; two sisters, Linda (Jonathan) Lockerman of Jacksonville and Toni (Scott) Sweetland of Cary, NC, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Family and friends will be received Friday, July 12, 2013 from 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM at the Craig-Flagler Palms Funeral Home, 511 Old Kings Road South in Flagler Beach. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM. Interment will follow at the Flagler Palms Memorial Gardens, with full military honors.
