Mary K. Powell, 72, Sarasota, died March 28, 2005.
She was born April 7, 1932, in Gary, Ind., and came to Sarasota three years ago from Palm Coast. She graduated from Indiana University. She was a teacher and had started the summer literacy program in Flagler County. She was a member of Beneva Christian Church and volunteered at its pantry.
Survivors include daughters Olevia P. Fulkert of Sarasota and Elizabeth B. Powell of Dallas; sons Roy E. of Sarasota and Roger Powell of Taunton, Mass.; a sister, Lola Dobbins of Lake Station, Ind.; a brother, Harry Rabe of Florida; and five grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. today at Beneva Christian Church. Burial will be in Palm Coast. Toale Brothers Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel, is in charge.

SARASOTA - Mary K. Powell, 72, of Sarasota, a Palm Coast resident from 1995 to 2002, died Monday at Doctors Hospital, Sarasota.
Born in Hammond, Ind., Mrs. Powell, a retired teacher, moved to Sarasota in 2002 from Palm Coast. She was a former member of the Palm Coast United Methodist Church and the Beneva Christian Church, Sarasota. She enjoyed working with children.
Survivors include two sons, Roy, Sarasota, and Roger, Taunton, Mass.; two daughters, Olevia Fulkert, Sarasota, and Elizabeth Powell, Dallas; a brother, Harry Rade, Florida; a sister, Lola Dobbin, Lake Station, Ind.; and five grandchildren.
Memorial donations may be made to Beneva Christian Church Children's Education Fund, 4835 Beneva Road, Sarasota, FL 34233.
