Andres Rivera
DECEMBER 2, 1937 – MAY 3, 2022
A mass celebrating the life of Andres Rivera will be held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton on Monday, May 9th, 2022 at 1 PM, preceded by a viewing at 12 PM and followed by his interment at Craig Flagler Palms Cemetery, where he will be joining his beloved wife, Irma Estrella Rivera, who predeceased him in 2009.
Andres passed away peacefully in his home in the care and company of his three children on May 3rd, 2022. Andres was born on the second of December in 1937 in Orocovis, Puerto Rico and was the fourth child of Nephtali Rivera and Natividad Rivera.
Andres emigrated to New York City in 1954. He married his wife in 1962 and worked for many years at Vo-Toys, Inc. as a shipping clerk until he retired in 1996, and they moved to Palm Coast, Florida. Andres enjoyed cultivating his garden, which was lush with banana, orange, and grapefruit trees, as well as a large variety of other plants, including pineapple, dama de la noche (night blooming jasmine) and camellias, which gave him and Irma pleasure with their winter blooms. He thoroughly appreciated a good meal and enjoyed learning about cars, often enjoying car shows. He also enjoyed conversations about current events and politics (expressing great concern for people who struggle around the world) and generally peppered his comments with his satirical sense of humor. He will be missed deeply by his family and friends.
He is survived by his children, Vivian Rivera and her husband Daniel McGlathery of Newton, Mass., Maria Rivera of Somerville, Mass., and Fernando Rivera, his wife Kristina, and their children, McKenzie, Damien and Dominic of Daytona Beach, FL.; his sister, Marta Guzman of Fort Lauderdale, FL. and her sons Antonio and Wilfredo Guzman; and his nieces Lydia Milagros Rivera of Puerto Rico, Angela Rivera and Teresa Rivera both of Brooklyn, N.Y.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate a donation to St. Jude's Children Research Hospital, one of Andres’ favorite charities, or to St. Elizabeth Ann Seton at 4600 Belle Terre Pkwy, Palm Coast, FL 32164.
Arrangements are under the care and trust of Craig-Flagler Palms Funeral Home.
