Joan Marie Roberts
SEPTEMBER 28, 1932 – APRIL 22, 2018

Dr. Joan Marie Roberts (McGranahan) was born in Wall, PA, to Thomas and Helen (Ryan) McGranahan, both now deceased, on September 28, 1932.

She graduated from Fordson High School, Dearborn, MI, and received her B.S., M.A., and Ph.D. degrees from Wayne State University, Detroit, MI.

Joan married Robert L. Roberts on July 1, 1966, in Royal Oak, MI. They were married 41 years when he predeceased her in November 2007. After getting her doctorate degree, she taught at Wayne State University Medical School in the Radiology/Radiobiology Department. She later transferred to the University of Detroit Dental School where she taught and continued her research in the Physiology/Pharmacology Department until her retirement. Her research was supported by grants from the Radiological Health Division of the Public Health Service.

She published in many scientific journal (Radiation Research, Teratology, Journal of Endocrinology, Experimental Neurology, etc. ). She was member of the Radiation Research Society, American Psychological Association, Sigma Xi, and American Association for the Advancement of Science. She and her husband retired to Palm Coast, FL, from Bloomfield Hills, MI, in 1993 They supported the Flagler County Humane Society, Ormond Memorial Art Museum, Museum of Arts and Sciences (Daytona), ACLU, Common Cause, and they enjoyed playing contract bridge.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Flagler County Humane Society, 1 Shelter Drive, Palm Coast, FL, 32137.

A funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday April 27, 2018, 1:00PM at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. Friends may visit on Friday from 12:00PM until service time in the memorial room of the church. Interment to follow at Flagler Palms Memorial Gardens.
