THE FLAGLER TRIBUNE
Bunnell, Florida
Thursday, March 7, 1940
The funeral of Mrs. Florence M. Root was held last Sunday afternoon at the Baptist Church of Flagler Beach. Rev. J. W. Littleton, pastor of the church conducted the services and delivered a very touching message. A trio composed of Mrs. C. E. Ranger, Mrs. Norman Carter and Carl Thissen sang two beautiful hymns: "Sometime We'll Understand," and "Does Jesus Care?"
There was a large attendance, some coming from Ormond and Bunnell, and there were many offerings of beautiful flowers from friends of the family.
Burial was in Hope Cemetery between Bunnell and Flagler Beach. The trio sang "Nearer My God To Thee” and Dr. Dow offered the prayer of commitment.
Mrs. Root was born in Benton County, Minn., December 7, 1871, and was married to Archer A. Root at Brainford, Minn., December 16, 1906. They came to Florida to live in July, 1914, and moved to Flagler Beach in December 1923.
She was one of the two remaining charter members of the Flagler Beach Baptist Church. She was for many years’ church clerk and secretary of the Sunday school and was a teacher in the Sunday school from the time it was organized until the last holiday season. Her last work there was in connection with the Christmas program.
She was ever a friend of the needy and her passing win be a great loss to both the church and the community.
