A funeral service for Louis "Lou" Joseph Sample, 83, of Palm Coast will be celebrated on Thursday October 6, 2016at 1:00 PM the chapel of Craig-Flagler Palms Funeral Home, 511 Old Kings Rd. S., Flagler Beach. Interment to follow with Military Honors at Flagler Palm Memorial Gardens. Friends may visit on Thursday, October 6, from 10:00 AM until the time of services at 1:00 PM at the funeral home.
Louis passed away on Friday, September 30, 2016 at the Stuart F. Meyer Hospice House. He was born on December 19, 1932 in Bronx, NY to the late Joseph Sample and Louise Klyce.
As a young man he served in the United States Air Force. Once he was honorably discharged he went to work for the New York City Police Department as an officer for a couple of years and then he went to work for the New York City Fire Department and retired from the department.
After his retirement he became the Fire Director at the Brooklyn Museum for the next 10 years. He then permanently retired in 1998 and moved to Palm Coast from Long Island. Louis was an accomplished recreational pilot who flew small airplanes. He also enjoyed playing golf.
Survivors include his loving wife of 49 years, Joyce; daughters, Shree (Harry) Hughes and Lucia Bennett both of NY; 1 grandchild; his life-long friend, Richard Henry Sr. of TX., and many more loving nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Donations in his memory may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
