"Smitty" Smith, 89, of Palm Coast, will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2013 at 10:00 AM in the Palm Coast United Methodist Church, 5200 Belle Terre Parkway, Palm Coast with Rev. Harry Gilman officiating. Interment will be in Flagler Palms Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Smith a resident of Palm Coast since 1979 coming from Alexandria, VA, passed away on Thursday, June 13 in Florida Hospital Flagler, Palm Coast. He was born in New Castle, PA on April 1, 1924, a son of the late Joseph E. and Shirley Puffenbarger Smith.

A retired economist for the U.S. Government, Mr. Smith was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He had been MIA for 99 days during the war. He was a member of the Palm Coast United Methodist Church, VFW Post 8696, the Palm Coast Lions Club where he was a Melvin Jones Recipient, the National Association of Retired Federal Employees and a former member of the Palm Coast Community Center Board of Directors. He enjoyed bird watching and was a World War II Movie Buff.

Preceding him in death was his first wife of 53 years Effie in 1999.

Surviving are his wife, Ronnie, whom he married September 14, 2002; two daughters, Sherry Congleton of Fairfax, VA and Janis Goschke of Georgia; one son, Scott S. Smith of Virginia Beach, VA; three step-daughters, Cynthia Webb of Jacksonville, FL, Susan Boerjan of Clifton Springs, NY and Joan Keenan of Clovis, CA; three step-sons, Thomas Kimball of Elk Grove, CA, Timothy Kimball of Palm Coast, FL and Charles Kimball of Lunenburg, MA; one sister, Shirley Kinney of Virginia Beach, VA; nineteen grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren.

The family suggests memorial contributions to the Flagler County Humane Society or the Florida United Methodist Children's Home.

Arrangements are in the care and trust of Craig-Flagler Palms Funeral Home.
