BLYTHEWOOD - Aubrey F. Spivey, 76, of Blythewood, died Wednesday, June 4, 2014. Born February 2, 1938, in Fairmont, NC, he was a son of the late Edward Manilla Spivey and Susan Bryant Spivey.
For many years Aubrey, along with his brother, Gene, was the owner and operator of Spivey Brothers Foods. He then operated Spivey's United Service Station in Blythewood, and finally retired from the S.C. Dept of Corrections. Aubrey was a member of Pine View Baptist Church. A loving and compassionate person, he never met a stranger.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Wardeen Spivey of Blythewood; sons, Darryl (Debbie) Spivey and Bart Spivey, all of Blythewood, Jody (Laurie) Spivey of Summerville, and Reese (Christy) Spivey of Phoenix, AZ; seven grandsons; four granddaughters; one great-grandson; brothers, Lyde (Doris) Spivey and Charlie Spivey, all of Jacksonville, FL, and Gene (Betsy) Spivey of Linville Falls, NC; as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Aubrey was preceded in death by brothers, David Spivey and Rev. Bryant Spivey; and sister, Cam Diettrich.
A memorial service for Mr. Spivey will be held 4 o'clock Saturday, at Shives Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel, 5202 Colonial Drive, Columbia, with the Rev. Jacob Helsley officiating. The family will greet friends prior to the service, beginning at 3 o'clock.
