Morris Steinberg, 98, of Palm Coast, passed away on Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at his home.

He and his wife were among Palm Coast's first residents, settling in the town's sixth home in 1972 after leaving their previous residence in Teaneck, New Jersey. He was a member of the Hillside High School (NJ) varsity football squad in the class of 1935. He enrolled as a student at Rutgers University, but had to leave school to help support his family. His face carried the reminders of a short-lived but successful boxing career.

He and his wife went on to buy a small hardware store and turned it into what for many years was New Jersey's premier housewares store. In the 1950s, his success as a merchandiser led to consultations by directors of the Macy's department store, and UN-arranged consultations by economic representatives from Scandinavian countries. In his later years, he was an avid golfer, bridge player, and gardener.

He was predeceased by his wife of 70 years, Sylvia, on July 10, 2011.

Morris is survived by his daughter, Karen Scheuer of Danville, California; his son, Robert and his wife Suzanne of Greenwich, Connecticut; his son, Richard and his wife Lorraine of Columbia, Maryland; his son James and his wife Lynn of Rhinebeck, New York; his daughter Jane Davidson and her husband Penn of Palm Coast, Florida; 17 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Interment was held at Flagler Palms Memorial Gardens.
