Gladys Gay Moore-Stilley

Gladys Gay Moore-Stilley was born in Blounts Creek, North Carolina on April 27, 1940 to Melissie Tuten-Moore and William Reily Moore.

She met her childhood sweetheart Norman Stilley of Edward, North Carolina in 1956. They united in matrimony on July 7, 1957. They moved to Greenport, Long Island, and had 3 children; Sabrina Stilley Foster of Long Island, NY, Norman Stilley, Jr. of Barcor, ME, Rhonda Gulsen-Wilson of Palm Coast, FL.

Gladys was a loving and devoted wife of 61 years. Her family and close friends called her Doll Lee. Her profession began at W. Grants in Greenport as a secretary. She later worked as a nursing assistant at Greenport Eastern Long Island Hospital. Gladys was the first African American woman and entrepreneur on Long Island to own and operate from 1983 until 2005, a beauty, barber and supply store.

She was very fashionable here on earth and loved helping anyone in need. Gladys had a plethora of loving customers for 25 plus years. Gladys maintained many strong and loving friendships throughout her life. She was quick to tell you when you were wrong and when you were right. Her special hobbies were reading books, listening to music, traveling and talking with her children and grandchildren.

Gladys retired to Palm Coast, Florida with her husband in 2007, where she closed her eyes for the last time on this side of the earth. Left behind is her husband of 61 years, Norman Stilley, Sr., two daughters, one son, 25 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

The family of Mrs. Stilley entrusted the arrangements to Clymer Funeral Home.
