Robert Stuart Tolan, a pioneer resident of Flagler Beach, died at his home on Ocean Shore Boulevard at 10 o'clock Wednesday night. A heart attack was the cause of his death.

Mr. Tolan was born in St. Peter, Minnesota, and while a young man went west to Anaconda, Montana, where he lived about 25 years.

He brought his family to Florida 20 years ago.

Mr. Tolan has been a real estate broker for a number of years and did much to help in the development of the east coast Flagler County. He was one of the trustees of the Ocean Shore Improvement District for a period of four years.

He was number three of the charter members of the Anaconda, Montana, B.P.O.E. (Elks). He was a Roman Catholic in religion.

Surviving are his wife, Christine Jaedicke Tolan, one daughter, Olive Celeste Tolan, two sisters, Mrs. Kate Lewis of Oakland, Calif., and Mrs. Hugh McLean of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, and one brother, U. S. Congressman John H. Tolan of Oakland, Calif. and Washington, D. C.

Funeral services will be held at 10 A. M. Tuesday in the chapel of Baggett-Wetherby Funeral home in Daytona Beach. It is requested that no flowers be sent, but friends of the deceased are invited. Interment will be in Hope cemetery near Flagler Beach.

Active pallbearers will be U. S. Coastguardsmen, three of, whom are James Matson, A. Brooks, and Julius. Dawson.

Honorary pallbearers are Ed Johnson, Dewey Moody, Dale B. Brown, Dewey Stuckey, C. O. Magee, George Moody, Dave Roberts, H. L. Sears Charles Ranger, Lyman Gage, Tom Holden, Harry Sutherland and H. T. Cook.

Funeral services for Robert S. Tolan were held Tuesday morning in Daytona Beach and at the graveside in Hope Cemetery here.

Following the Catholic rites with the Rev. B. Szezpaniak, past of St. Mary Church at Korona officiating, the B. P. O. Elks ritual was conducted by the officers of the Daytona Beach lodge. Mr. Tolan was a charter member of the Anaconda, Montana lodge.

During the pioneer days of Flagler Beach Mr. Tolan was prominent in all civic affairs and the development of the section. He was a member of the town council during the building of the municipal fishing pier, and had been a real estate broker since his arrival here. He was a trustee of the Ocean Shore Improvement district for a period of four years.

Attendance of his close friends, messages of sympathy and floral offerings from relatives and friends of Flagler, Volusia, Putnam, and Polk and from Montana showed the esteem in which Mr. Tolan was held. He was especially fond of children and was popular with the little ones at the beach.

Active pallbearers at the graveside were Commander James Matson, A. W. Brooks, James Caudill and Julian Dawson, U. S. Coastguardsmen from the local barracks and friends of Mr. Tolan.
