PALM COAST - Leon Torres, 80, of Palm Coast, a resident since 2003, died Friday at Shands Hospital at the University of Florida, Gainesville.
Mr. Torres, who served as an Army sergeant during the Korean War and received the Purple Heart, was born in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico. He moved to this area from Williamstown, N.J. He was a member of Primera Iglesia Bautista Hispana de Palm Coast. Mr. Torres enjoyed gardening, baseball and playing cards and dominoes.
Survivors include his wife of 10 years, Elizabeth; five sons, Charles, Melvin, Leroy and Leonardo, all of New Jersey, and Leon Jr., Pennsylvania; two daughters, Lillian Santiago and Linda Nunez, both of New Jersey; three brothers, Luis, New Jersey, and Virginio and William, both of Puerto Rico; four sisters, Julia Ortiz, Florida, Angelita Rodriguez and Sylvia Febus, both of New Jersey, and Estrella Marrero, Puerto Rico; several grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
