Mrs. Ida A. Upson of Daytona Beach, and a former resident of Flagler Beach for many years, passed away Thursday night at the Halifax Hospital following an illness of several weeks. She was 83 years of age.

Mrs. Upson was born in Moultrie and moved to Daytona Beach during early childhood. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Fuquay who were pioneer residents of Daytona Beach. Mr. and Mrs. Upson homesteaded at Flagler Beach about 1914, and resided there for many years where she was active in civic and social affairs.

She managed the Flagler Beach Hotel from 1924 to about 1932. After returning to Daytona Beach she managed a hotel there and for about 15 years was manager of a hotel in Balsam, N.C. She retired about eight years ago.

She is survived by five sons, Raymond Hart, of Daytona Beach, Lawrence O. Upson, Louis W. Upson, John J. Upson, and Reginald C. Upson, all of Holly Hill; two daughters, Mrs. Mary Trainor and Mrs. Gwendolyn Y. Rich, both of Holly Hill; two brothers, D.F. Fuquay and Adrian C. Fuquay of Daytona Beach. Also surviving are 24 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held from Baggett-McIntosh Chapel Saturday afternoon with Rev. Morgan Lamb, pastor of the Flomich Avenue Baptist Church officiating. Interment followed here at Hope Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were William Owen, Herman Edwards, Kenneth Patton, George Wickline, George W. Moody, and D.D. Moody. Honorary pallbearers were Louis Ossinsky, Sr., Robert Merrell, Gene Johnson, Dr. Frank Sica, Tom Holden, Dr. Hoke Johnson, Sr., Otto Wehner, George L. Biddle and W. L. Wadsworth.
