Obituary of Gabraiel Zakkour

Gabraiel (Gaby) Zakkour, beloved husband of 51 years to Katrina Halabi, of Delray Beach, FL and Little Falls, NJ, fell asleep in the Lord peacefully surrounded by his family in his home on February 6. 2023, after a long illness. Gaby was born on April 1, 1943, in Lattakia, Syria, the son of Georgi Zakkour and Harba Lubos.

Gaby was a renowned caterer and pastry chef in his hometown of Lattakia, Syria, where he worked tirelessly to refine his craft to the delight of his customers. He immigrated to the US in 1986 with his family in pursuit of the American Dream and a better life, yet his beloved Syria was always in his heart, and he never forgot his roots.

When he came to the US, he was not too proud to start over. With a smile always on his face and a humble heart, he worked hard and established a new career as the owner/operator of two electronics stores in Paterson, NJ, which he operated with his wife and his son and became a very successful businessman in the US.

Gaby will be remembered as a man of honor and dignity. He was defined by love, kindness, and compassion for his family and friends, and he will be missed by many. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. His passing will leave a void in the hearts of all who knew him.

Gaby was a devoted parishioner of St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church in Little Falls, NJ. His faith and his family were the centers of his life in Little Falls, where he enjoyed the company of his children and grandchildren. In 2018, Gaby and his wife, Katrina, retired to Delray Beach.

In addition to his wife, Gaby leaves behind his children and grandchildren, whom he adored. He is survived by his son Claude Zakkour, his daughter Marielle Zakkour Takla, and husband, Dr. Magdy Takla, and his grandchildren, Marc, Tina, Rima, and Renee Takla. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law Maro, Hind, and Mary of Lattakia, Syria. He is survived by his wife’s siblings, Elias Halabi (Marie) of Pequannock, NJ, Dr. Naman Halabi of Silver Spring, MD, Daad Halabi of Silver Spring, MD, and Isa Halabi of Paterson, NJ. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends who will miss him greatly.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his siblings Abdullah Zakkour, Collette and husband George Zakkour, Dr. Boulos Zakkour, and Spiro Zakkour, all of Lattakia, Syria.

Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, February 14, 2023, at 11 AM at St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church. 4721 E. Moody Blvd. Bunnell, FL 32110. Visitation with the family will take place before the funeral at St. Nicholas from 10:00 – 11:00am. Interment will follow the funeral at Flagler Memorial Gardens in Flagler Beach.
