Donald Richard Zierk

Donald Richard Zierk, 89 of Palm Coast, passed away December 31, 2022 at his residence.

He was born February 11, 1933 in Chicago, IL, a son of Walter and Cecelia (Bunn) Zierk.

After graduating from high school, he was drafted into the Army during the Korean War where he served in the 31st Infantry Regiment. He was honorably discharged as a Corporal. After his return home, he first lived in Chicago and then settled in Streamwood, IL. where he worked as a Lithographer and raised his family with his wife Dorothy.

In 1980, he and Dorothy followed their dream by moving to Palm Coast, FL. After moving to Florida, he became the co-owner/founder of Tri City Cycle for the first 5 years of its existence. After selling the cycle shop, he worked both in the motorcycle and printing industries until retirement. Don enjoyed woodworking, golfing, and gardening. His beloved hobby was traveling the United States with Dorothy collecting antique toothpick holders, and attending the National Toothpick Holders Collectors’ Society annual conventions.

The love of his life and his wife of 62 years, the former Dorothy Emily Ricker, whom he married May 30, 1958, passed away March 19, 2021.

He leaves two sons, Scott (Monty) Zierk of Ebro, FL, and David (Cindy) Zierk of Palm Coast, FL. Eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren (seventh is on the way), one great-great-grandchild, and 3 sisters Louise (Zierk) Burnham, Molly (Zierk) Hopkins, and Cecelia (Zierk) Everest.

Family and friends will be received Saturday, February 11, 2023 from 12:00 – 1:00 pm at Craig-Flagler Palms Funeral Home in Flagler Beach, where a memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm. Inurnment will follow at Flagler Memorial Gardens, with full military honors.
