James Melvin, 82, of South Church Street, a former maintenance man, died Aug. 30 at Memorial Hospital-Flagler. 

Mr. Melvin was born in San Mateo, and moved here 53 years ago. He was a member of Holy Temple Church of God in Christ. 

Survivors include five daughters, Catherine Smith, Corine Giddens and Rosetta Washington, all of Bunnell, and Irene Noland and Mary Melvin, both of Daytona Beach; two sons, John, Daytona Beach, and Alphonso, Bunnell; two sisters, Essie Mae Harvey, Bradenton, and Catherine Walker, Tampa; a brother, Henry, Tampa; 29 grandchildren; and 56 great-grandchildren.
