St. Augustine Youth Dies Of Shotgun Blast Wounds

A 14-year-old St. Augustine boy died of a shotgun wound last night after being taken to the emergency room at St. Vincent's Hospital, Jacksonville.

The youth, Joseph Corbin of 7 Pellicer Lane, was found lying on the floor of the bedroom at their home by his brother, John, 15, moments after John heard a shotgun blast, according to police reports.

The report stated that their mother, Mrs. Agnes Corbin, was present in the house at the time of the incident late yesterday afternoon.

John told St. Augustine police officer Bill Collins he had been in his mother's room when he heard the shot. Collins said John told him he ran to the other bedroom and found his brother lying on the floor. He said the shotgun was lying in the doorway.

Prior to the shooting, the gun had been leaning against the doorway to the room, according to Collins.

The shooting was still under investigation today and police had not determined who fired the weapon.

A native of Inverness, Joseph had lived here most of his life. He attended the Pentecostal Holiness Church.

Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Agnes Corbin, his father, Walter Corbin, both of St. Augustine; three brothers, Karl Andrew Robinson of St. Augustine, Pvt. Emory Wallace Corbin of Ft. Knox, Ky., John Walter Corbin of St. Augustine; his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Bryant of Plant City; and his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe B. Corbin of St. Augustine.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by the Craig Funeral Home.
