Genevieve Davis, 88, died Monday, Dec. 5, 2011, at Flagler Hospital. Genevieve was born in Hastings on Oct. 2, 1923.
She worked as a welder at the Navy shipyard in Jacksonville at a young age and because of her petite size, was able to crawl into the small spaces that most of the men could not reach. After Genevieve’s stint as a welder, she moved to Howey-in-the-Hills, where she worked as a postal clerk, working her way up to postmaster at the Oakland post office, from which she retired.
Genevieve was predeceased by her parents, Daisy Ideal Stoddard Wells and Wimberly Wells, brothers, Raphael Daniel Wells, Benjamin Wells and Wimberly Donald "Bill" Wells, and her son Glen Davis.
Genevieve is survived by her son, James "Richard" Davis of Las Vegas, Nev.; sister, Helen "Pat" Harvey; brother, Reginald Wells and his wife Francis, St. Augustine; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended relatives.
There will be a private family gathering to remember and honor Genevieve at Pellicer Creek Cemetery.
Those wishing may make contributions to the American Macular Degeneration Foundation or the Alzheimer’s Association in honor of Genevieve.
Craig Funeral Home Crematory Memorial Park is in charge of the arrangements.
