Rachel Varnum Lewis, 80, St. Augustine, died June 22, 2001, at Flagler Hospital.

She was born April 21, 1921, in Warsaw, Florida and moved to St. Augustine in 1955 from Oxford, Fla. She was a homemaker and had worked at Zoric's Laundry and for a local taxi cab company. She was a member of the New Life Christian Assembly.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the New Life Christian Assembly with Pastor David Webb and Rev. Lester Green officiating. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Flowers are gratefully accepted or those wishing may make a contribution in her memory to the New Life Assembly Building Fund, 575 Big Oak Road, St. Augustine, 32095.

Survivors include her children, Arren D. Dorman, Ocala, Vivian Pacetti, St. Augustine, Nelda JoAn Spires, Ocala, Bonnie Rackliff, Roscoe Lewis Jr. and Diane Higginbotham, all of St. Augustine; 17 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her son, John Bethel Dorman.
