William A. "Dykes" Odom, 80, died Monday, Dec. 24, 2001, at Flagler Hospital in St. Augustine.

Mr. Odom was born in Hastings and was formerly of Putnam County before he moved to St. Augustine. He had worked at Hudson Pulp and Paper Mill in Palatka for eight years and was a supervisor when he left. He is a highly decorated U.S. Army veteran having served during seven major battles of World War II, in Normandy, the Battle of the Bulge, the Pacific and North Africa. His affiliations included Sons of Confederate Veterans, Palatka, Camp No. 534, Veterans of Foreign Wars No. 3349, Palatka, and American Legion, Hamblin House of St. Augustine.

Survivors are his sons, Greg F. Odom of Palatka, Billy Odom of St. Augustine; brother, Hubert Odom of Hastings; sisters, Leitha Mae Estey of St. Augustine, Mary Jones of Hastings, Alta Bass of Palatka; grandchildren, Austin Odom, Stella Odom, Gage Odom and Jeffrey Lackey.

In remembrance of Mr. Odom's life, a service is planned for 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 30, 2001, at Watts Funeral Home, San Mateo. Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home and will continue upon conclusion of the service until 5 p.m.
