Joseph L. Abbott



DeLeon Springs - Joseph L. Abbott, 83, of DeLeon Springs, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 4, 2021. He was born in Seville, FL to the late Leslie and Thelma Abbott on November 27, 1937.

Joe graduated from Seville High School and served in the U.S. Army.

He married his wife, Joyce, in 1965 and they settled in DeLeon Springs where they raised their three children. Joe was well known in the citrus industry as the manager of Alexander and Baird Co., owner/operator of Volusia Sod Company and Joseph L. Abbott Trucking. He served as deacon and was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Deleon Springs.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Joyce; three children, Dorissa Martin (Adison), Joseph Abbott II, and Jolie Kelly (Bruce); 6 grandchildren, Davis, Dustin, Dolan, Dayna, Karen and Preston; sister Wanda Wilkenson (Bill); and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be held Thursday, June 10th at First Baptist Church DeLeon Springs. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am, with the service following at 10:30. Interment will follow at Seville Cemetery.
