Crescent City - Funeral services for Harry Andrew Appleby (1889-1947), well-known local resident and a State citrus fruit inspector, whose sudden death in a Jacksonville hospital came as a distinct shock to the entire community, were held Friday afternoon at the Seville Primitive Baptist Church, with the minister, J. C. Ward, pastor of the Mt. Olive Primitive Baptist Church of Spring Garden, officiating. Interment was in the Seville Cemetery, with the Clayton Frank Funeral Home in charge.

The pallbearers were, Messrs. Baxter T. Bryan, Hartz Droughty, Ray D. Osmer, Charles Roes, French McCaney and Bert Daroughty.

The deceased, age 58, was born and reared in the Pomona-Fruitland section. He served for a time in the U.S. Navy, and later was in the railway service. For many years past he had been connected with the citrus fruit industry as manager of large packing houses here. Of late years he had been with the State Fruit Inspection Department and was a popular and capable official.

Survivors include the widow, Mrs. Ruth Davis Appleby; a daughter, Miss Florene Appleby, a student at the Florida State University, Mrs. Paul Rees of Daytona Beach; a stepson, Frank Tipton of Jacksonville; three grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. L. A. Mikell of Palatka.
