Gordon was born to Joseph Clarence Buckles and Caroline Salyerds Buckles in San Mateo, Florida. He graduated from Mellon High School in Palatka, Florida in 1952.

Gordon married his sweetheart Maxine Fetterley (Buckles) May 21, 1954 at the First United Methodist Church in Bunnell. Gordon worked with his father in farming in his early years and after marriage he worked for St. Regis Paper Company for 23 years. While working for St. Regis he went to Rookie School and became a deputy sheriff for the Flagler County Sheriff's office part time for about 5 years.

In 1977 he was approached by the State of Florida for a special job that was being created. The Governor appointed 20 persons to be Special Investigators for the Department of Agriculture Forest Investigators to cover the State of Florida. Gordon was hired and assigned to cover Flagler, St. Johns and Volusia Counties. He retired after 22 years of service to the State.

He then spent his time farming (growing vegetables for family and friends) fishing, and reading his Western Books. He was a former 4-H leader, one of the first Flagler County Recreation Board Members, Past Kiwanis Club Member, Member of the First United Methodist Church, and Methodist Men. He had a gentle loving, giving spirit that showed through to all that he came in to contact with and will be greatly missed.

He is survived by wife, Maxine; daughters, Kathleen Prevatt, and Sherry Prather; son, Gordon Wayne (Claudia); grandchildren, Ryan (Tamara) Prevatt, Jennifer Prevatt, Jason Prather, Jana (Brandon) Prather Greer, Catlin Wayne Buckles and Jessica Blair Buckles; great- grandchildren, Caleb Ryan Prevatt, Alexis Yvonne Prevatt, and Gracyn Ali Greer; brothers, Victor Earl Buckles (Sandy), and Oliver Wendall Buckles (Betty); nieces, nephews and countless friends.
