Mrs. Carlisle A. Byrd, Sr. killed instantly in auto accident early Sunday morning in collision between the Byrd car and one driven by Ollie Johnson, colored and drunk while driving. Occurred near a Seville tavern known as "The Pines," Byrd family were returning from a "turkey shoot" at Crescent City and driving south on Highway 17. He suffered no serious injury; neither did the two Byrd children, Carlisle, Jr., 19, and Barbara, 15.
Mrs. Byrd, age 43, was born in Seville June 6, 1906, was the daughter of Thomas E. Register and the late Mr. Register. She attended school in Seville and graduated from the Crescent City High School and Stetson University. She taught in the Volusia County schools for several years prior to her marriage to Carlisle Byrd of Branchville, S.C.
Survivors include her husband; one son, Carlisle, Jr. and one daughter, Barbara: her father, Thomas E. Register of Seville; four sisters: Mrs. Julia Graham and Mrs. Mae Loadholtz of Seville, Mrs. Ruth Sing and Mrs. Lottie Brown of Jacksonville; one brother, Sherman Register of Jacksonville.
Funeral services were held in the Methodist Church in Seville with the Rev. Herman Hurdock officiating assisted by the Rev. John T. Adams B former pastor, of Oviedo. Interment was in the family lot at Seville Cemetery.
