Lewis Prentis Carter, Sr., 85 of Copperas Cove, Texas, passed away Tuesday, May 6, 2008 in a Temple hospital in Temple, Texas.

Mr. Carter was born in Blackshear, Ga., and raised in Seville and was a former resident of Jacksonville. He served honorably in the United States Army in the South Pacific during World War II. A retired salesman, he was very involved in his church, serving as a deacon at The Trinity Living Center in Copperas Cove.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Rosetta Mae Carter; three brothers, H.O. Carter, Toris Carter and Don L. Carter and two sisters, Ella Mae Clark and Willie Bare.

Mr. Carter is survived by three sons, Timothy M. Carter of Jacksonville, L.P. Carter, Jr. of Osteen, and Jeremy L. Carter of Aledo, Texas; a daughter, Carmen Allura Long of Copperas Cove;  three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 14, at Masters Funeral Home of Palatka, with the Rev. Eddie Humes officiating. Burial will follow in the Seville Cemetery with military honors bestowed by the U.S. Army and the Patriot Guard.
