Mrs. Mary Jane Sophronia Deen, 82, whose passing is mourned by over 100 survivors and innumerable fiends in this state and South Georgia, died yesterday afternoon at the residence of a daughter, Mrs. F. I. Grant, 1604 Alford Place.

A native of Baxley, Ga., Mrs. Deen spent the greater part of her fruitful life in Seville, where she was a member of the Methodist Church. She came to Southside seven months ago.

In addition to Mrs. Grant, she is survivors and innumerable friends in Mrs. Arminda Harris and Mrs. Mary Lou Nichols, Winter Haven, Mrs. Ella Waters and Mrs. Kate Causey, Seville, Mrs. Ethel Lawson, Oak Hill, Mrs. Alice Andres and Mrs. Nettie Bennett, Jacksonville, and one son, James Bennett (sic - Emmett) Deen, Bunnell.

A sister, Mrs. J. H. Thomas, Jacksonville, three brothers, D. P., D. W. and J. J. Miles, all of Baxley; 48 grandchildren; 40 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Funeral services will be held at 9:30 A M Thursday in the chapel of the Key-McCabe Funeral Home with the Rev Thomas D Byrne, rector of All Saints Episcopal Church, officiating.

Following the service the funeral cortege will leave for Seville, where interment rites will be held at 3 P M in the Methodist Church.

Mrs. J. M. Deen, 82, one of Seville's oldest pioneers, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Fred Grant, in Jacksonville, yesterday afternoon. Services will be held Thursday afternoon from the Methodist Church, Seville, with Rev Homer Bain officiating.

Surviving Mrs. Deen are one son, Emmett, of Bunnell; daughters, Mrs. Kate Causey and Mrs. Ella Waters, Seville, Mrs. Ethel Lawson, Oak Hill, Mrs. Lillie Grant, Jacksonville, Mrs. Alice Andres, Jacksonville, Mrs. Nellie Bennett, Jacksonville, Mrs. Marilyn (Mary Lou) Nichols, Winter Haven and Mrs. Arminda Harris, Winter Haven.

Pall bearers: John Graham, George Causey, Fred Cade, C. A. Byrd, George Causey and O. W. Prevatt.

Mrs. Mary Jane Sophronia Deen of Seville, mother of James Emmett Deen of Bunnell, died Tuesday afternoon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. F. I. Grant of Jacksonville, following an illness of several months duration.

Mrs. Deen who was 82 years of age, was a native of Baxley, Ga., but spent the greater part of her life in Seville, where she was a member of the Methodist Church. She has been confined to the home of her daughter in Jacksonville for the past seven months. She underwent a major operation in a Jacksonville hospital several months ago.

She is survived by eight daughters, Mrs. F. I. Grant, Mrs. Alice Anders, and Mrs. Nettie Bennett of Jacksonville; Mrs. Arminda Harris, and Mrs. Mary Lou Nichols of Winter Haven; Mrs. Ella Waters, and Mrs. Kate Causey of Seville; and Mrs. Ethel Lawson of Oak Hill.; Also one son, James Emmett Deen of Bunnell. There also survives a sister, Mrs. J. H. Thomas, Jacksonville; three brothers, D. P., D. W., and J. J. Miles all of Baxley; 48 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Following funeral services in the Key McCabe Funeral Home in Jacksonville Thursday morning the body was returned to Seville where burial was held from the Methodist Church at Three o'clock.

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Jane Sophronia Deen, 82, were held at the Methodist Church Thursday at 3 p.m. with Rev. Homer Bain officiating.

Mrs. Deen died November 14th at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Fred Grant in Jacksonville after an illness of seven months. She was a native of Baxley, GA coming to Seville about 40 years ago with her family, where she has since made her home. She was a member of the Seville Methodist Church.

Interment made in the family lot in Seville Cemetery.
