DELAND -- McCoy Gamble, 72, of U.S. Highway 17, a retired heavy equipment operator, died Sunday at Florida Hospital DeLand.

Mr. Gamble, an Army veteran of the Korean War, was born in Baxley, Ga., and moved here from Alaska in 1998. He was a member of Local 302 and 612 Operating Engineers Union, Seattle, the DeLand AMVETS and the Eagles Lodge in Crescent City. Mr. Gamble enjoyed reading and stock car racing.

Survivors include three sons, Mac Roy and Jamie, both of DeLeon Springs, and Mark, Orange Park; a daughter, Charlene Lewis, Jesup, Ga.; three brothers, Vernon and Alvin, both of Seville, and Lamar, Maben, Miss.; a sister, Lucille Welch, DeLeon Springs; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia/Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129.

Carpenter-Curry is in charge.

GAMBLE, McCOY "COY" - Funeral service for McCoy "Coy" Gamble, 72, Deleon Springs, who died at home Sunday, Jan. 23, 2005, after a long illness, will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, in the chapel of Carpenter Curry Funeral Home, Deland, with the Rev. Joseph Ar­thur officiating. Interment will follow at Seville Cemetery, Seville.

The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. today (Wednesday) at the funeral home.

Mr. Gamble, retired as a heavy equipment operator, was born in Baxley, Ga. An Army veteran, he was an avid reader and a devout Baptist. His memberships included the local 302 and local 612 Operat­ing Engineers Union, Seattle, Wash., AMVETS, Deland, and Eagles, Crescent City.

Survivors include his daughter, Charlene Lewis, Jesup, Ga.; three sons, Mac Roy Gamble, DeLeon Springs, Mark Gamble, Orange Park, and Jamie Gamble, DeLeon Springs; sister, Lucille Welch, Deleon Springs; three brothers, Vernon Gamble and Alvin Gamble, both of Seville, and Lamar Gamble, Maben, Miss.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are entrusted to Carpenter-Curry Funeral Home.
