SEVILLE – Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the cemetery for Milo C. Newman, Jr., who was killed in action in France, Aug 28, 1944. 

Sgt. Newman was born in Seville Nov. 8, 1919, and lived here his entire life until he enlisted in the Army in 1940. He received training at Ft. Jackson, S.C. and later at Camp Forest, Tenn. He was sent overseas with an infantry unit in December, 1943, first to Ireland and then to France, where he received the Silver Star for gallantry in action July 13, 1944. 

Survivors include his father, Milo C. Newman; two brothers, Richard W. and Joey Newman; his grandmother, Mrs. Josephine Ruth; and step-mother, Mrs. Ruth Newman, all of Seville. 

Pallbearers were Albert Baker, Albert Mew, Paul Peterson, J. V. McCullough, Tommy Spence and Charles Cooke. 

Frank’s Funeral Home, Crescent City was in charge.

Seville - Military funeral services for Tech. Sgt. Milo C. Newman, Jr. (1919-1944), age 24, who was killed in action in France in August 1944, were held Saturday afternoon at the cemetery here, under direction of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Sgt. Newman was born in Seville on November 8, 1919, and here he resided until he enlisted in the army in July 1940. He received his training at Camp Forrest, Tenn., and Ft. Jackson, S.C. In 1943 he was sent overseas for war service and was stationed in North Ireland and later was sent to France for action. He was in the thick of the fighting in France, and received the Silver Star for gallantry in battles in Normandy. On August 28 of last year he was killed in action near Vesley in Normandy.

Sgt. Newman is survived by his father, Milo C. Newman Sr.; stepmother, Mrs. Ruth Newman; two brothers, Richard and Joey; and grandmother, Mrs. Josephine Ruth, all of Seville.
