DEATH TAKES MRS. POWELL

GOLD STAR MOTHER SUCCUMBS HERE

Mrs. Lena Robinson Powell, 65, aunt of R. L. Nicholas, of 3575 Riverside Avenue, manager of the Guardian Life Insurance Company, died in a local hospital yesterday afternoon following an illness of several weeks.

Mrs. Powell was born in Screven, Ga., and came to Florida when a child with her parents. Her father was the late J. C. Robinson of Seville, Fla., one of the pioneers in the citrus industry. Her husband was the late Gordon Powell, a pioneer turpentine operator of Florida. She was a Gold Star Mother.

Her son was James Powell, Jacksonville soldier who lost his life aboard the Ontronto when that vessel was torpedoed by a German ship off the coast of Ireland, February 9, 1918. Young Powell, who was 19 at the time of his death, enlisted in the artillery in Jacksonville in 1917 and underwent training at Fort Screven, Ga., near Savannah and was en route overseas when killed.

Mrs. Powell made her home in Jacksonville for many years prior to 1927 since which time she has spent most of her time at Seville.

Survivors are her mother, Mrs. J. C. Robinson of Seville; three sisters, Mrs. Eva M. Nicholas, Seville, Mrs. R. L. Smith, Crescent City, and Mrs. Robert Pendleton, Tallahassee; three brothers, Emmett Robinson and Ira Robinson of Seville and J. L. Robinson of Raiford; 13 nieces and nine nephews.

The body was place in care of Hardage and Williams and funeral arrangements will be announced later.
