A memorial service for Virginia Eugenia (Gene) Wickey Register, 100, who passed away peacefully Friday, Jan. 15, 2010, surrounded by her loved ones, will be held Tuesday, Jan. 19, at 2 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church of Seville. Visitation will be held one hour before the service at the church.

Born in Kalamazoo, Mich., on August 6, 1909, she spent her childhood in Michigan and Florida and graduated from Florida State Women's College in Tallahassee in 1930.

She was very active in her church family over the years as a youth leader, church treasurer and UMW member and attended church regularly for 100 years. She felt it was her duty to set a good example by being there on Sunday morning, singing hymns along with her friends in praise to the God she loved, even after she could no longer see the words. She wanted her children, grandchildren and friends to know, "Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus, just to take Him at His Word, Just to rest upon His promise just to know thus saith the Lord."

She met her husband to be, J.W. Register, at a prayer meeting and something clicked and they went to church together ever after for 75 years until JW. passed away in 2006. She enjoyed canning her husband's bountiful crop, sewing and needlework for her family, and traveling with her daughter and son-in-law. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, a daughter, Kathleen Redeker (husband Immo), Asheville, NC; a son, James William Register (wife, Barbara), Seville; four grandchildren, David Wayne Register (wife, Alison), Michael Allen Register (wife, Jana), James Mathew Register (wife, Amy) all of Seville, and Amy Lynn Velazquez (husband, Jack), DeLand; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great- grandchild.

Memorial donations may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church of Seville, P.O. Box 99, Seville, FL 32190; or Hospice of Volusia/Flagler, 1250 S. State Road 15A, Suite 5, DeLand, FL 32720.

Arrangements are under the careful direction of Clayton Frank & Biggs, Crescent City.
