Madison R. "Rudy" Smith, 63, passed away unexpectedly Thursday afternoon, May 4, 2000, at Memorial Hospital West Volusia in DeLand.

A native and lifetime resident of Seville, he was a heavy equipment operator with the Road and Bridge Department of Volusia County. He enjoyed membership with the First Baptist Church of Seville and in his spare time his hobbies included fishing and gardening. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Madison E. and Ethel K. Smith and brother, Murray Smith.

He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Elsie Smith of Seville; sons, Reuel Smith of Palatka, Leston Smith of Crescent City, and Walter "Turkey" Bramlitt of Jacksonville; daughters, Jenny Flannery of Palatka, Michelle Thomas of Palatka, and Elaine DuPont of Bunnell; brothers, Julius "Smitty" Smith of Seville and Glenn Smith of Seville; sisters, Joyce Chavis of Crescent City and Sue Pigue of Seville; 14 grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held today, 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Seville with Pastor Robert Goodman officiating. Burial will follow in Seville Cemetery.

Visitation was held Sunday evening, 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
