Funeral services for Ben Varnes of Seville, aged 50, who was killed about 7:30 Sunday evening when he was struck by an auto, were held Monday afternoon.

Mr. Varnes was struck by a car occupied by Earnest Daugherty and J. H. McKnight when he attempted to cross the road, stepping from behind one card directly in the way of the car that struck him.

At a coroner's inquest the occupants of the car were exonerated tram blame, it being found that the accident was unavoidable.

SEVILLE - ……. car driven by Ernest Daugherty of DeLand; J. H. McKnight of this place was in the car with Mr. Daugherty.

Ben Varnes was instantly killed. Mr. Varnes was 50 years old last February 20th.

Messrs Daugherty and McKnight were both intimate friends of Mr. Varnes and both are much grieved.

Arrangements for the funeral in charge of J. L. Robinson and services were conducted at the Baptist Church Monday afternoon by the Rev. W. L. Brandon. Body laid to rest in Seville Cemetery. Pallbearers were E. C. Byrd, Major Sing, W. H. Parker, John Causey, W. D. Rau­lerson and Milo Newman.

Deceased is survived by one daughter, Cordelia, of Sanford, one son, Gordon of this place, two sisters, Mrs. Dora Brown Lee and Mrs. Sam Flowers of this place, two brothers, John Varnes of this place and Sam Varnes of Crescent City, and a number of relatives and friends.
