John R. Varnes, one of Seville's oldest residents, succumbed at his home there yesterday afternoon. Death is said to have resulted from injuries received in a fall on his porch earlier in the day. He was 71 years old.
Varnes is said to have spent the greater portion of his life in and near Seville. He was formerly in the cattle business.
Services are to be held Sunday afternoon at the Seville Cemetery with the Rev. I. S. Murphy, officiating.
Frank's Funeral Home of Crescent City in charge.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Eudelle Varnes; two daughters, Misses Donia and Mary, and a sister, Mrs. Rebecca Flowers, all of Seville. Samuel Varnes of Crescent City, a brother, also survives.
