John Theodore Markowski 91, of Palm Coast, passed away on Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at the Stuart F. Meyer Hospice House. John was born in Patterson, NJ. on July 1, 1924 to the late John Leo and Cecelia Markowski (Strezeski). As a young man he served in the US Army AirCorps entertaining the troops in Europe as a drummer in a band called the “Yankee Doodlers” during WWII. John was a salesman in construction supplies and volunteered on the ambulance squad in Towaco, NJ and was a member of the Pompton Lakes, NJ Elk’s Club where he served as an Exalted Ruler. In 1975 he and his wife moved to the Palm Coast area from Towaco, NJ. He enjoyed antiquing, bird watching and his afternoon cocktails but his greatest enjoyment in life was being with his beloved family.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years, Lucy Markowski in 2009; daughter, Katherine McCarthy in 2002; grand-daughter, Elizabeth McCarthy in 2002.
Survivors include children, John and his wife Marlene Markowski of Doylestown, PA; Robert Markowski of Chestnuthill, PA; Patricia and her husband Paul Pasternak of Palm Coast; Cecelia and her husband Thomas Handza of Vorhees, NJ; Michael and his wife Virginia of Palm Coast; Lucy and her husband David Avellar of Palm Coast; Mary Markowski of Palm Coast; 19 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren. Also his very special cat, Garfield.
The family will receive friends on Monday, October 12, 2015 from 2:00-3:00PM at Craig-Flagler Palms Funeral Home, 511 Old Kings Rd. South, Flagler Beach, FL.
