Muriel Agnes Barney Pelletier
This is a tribute to the life of Muriel Agnes Barney Pelletier, of Palm Coast, Florida, who died peacefully in her sleep on Sunday August 1, 2010 at the age of 86. She died two weeks and one day after the death of her late beloved husband of 63 years, Robert J. Pelletier.
Muriel Barney was born in Cornwall, Ontario, Canada, on August 22, 1923, to Merilda Plourde Barney and George Barney.
She is survived by her brother, Gerald Barney, of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada; her three sons, Richard John, Raymon Allen, Vincent Gerald; her daughter, Diane Marie; and her six grandchildren, Dawn, Danielle, David, Nicole, Michael, and Andrea.
As a teenager, Muriel suffered and almost died from a severely enlarged spleen pressing on & adversely impacting her other organs. She was pleased to tell everyone she made medical history by being the first patient to survive having her spleen removed. An athletic and active young woman, Muriel attended the Congregation de Notre Dame College in Ottawa, then worked briefly as a Legal Secretary.
Thanks to the fine matchmaking skills of her Aunt Matilda Plourde Brisson, Muriel and Robert Joseph Pelletier met in February 1946, "it was love at first sight" and they married on May 17, 1947. In January 1956, Muriel proudly became a Naturalized United States Citizen. She was an avid gardener, wine maker, and quilt maker, who was known for her sumptuous Sunday dinners. Muriel initiated the couple's extensive travels throughout Canada and the United States. But most importantly to her family and friends, she was a warm, generous, nurturing woman, wife and mother.
A mass of Christian burial for Muriel combined with a memorial mass for her beloved husband, Robert will be celebrated Friday, August 6, 2010 at 10:30 AM at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 4600 Belle Terre Parkway, Palm Coast with Father Tim Cusick as celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Korona, FL. Friends wishing to call and pay their respects may do so Thursday from 3:00 until 5:00 PM at the Dale Woodward Chapel by the Sea, 1780 Ocean Shore Blvd. Ormond Beach. We love you, we miss you, and we are happy you are once again with your one true love, Robert.
